Lizzie Borden B&B

Location:  Fall River, Massachusetts

History: The bed and breakfast, built in 1845, is the sight of one of the most gruesome crimes in New England to place. On August 4, 1892,  Andrew Jackson Borden and Abby Durfee Borden were found by Lizzie Borden, dead. Andrew was found dead on the living room couch, striked 19 times with an axe (and not 40 like in the popular rhyme). And Abby was found in guest room, also dead from hatchet strikes. Lizzie was not guilty and to this day we still don't know who is the killer.

Waverly Hills Sanitorium

Location:  Louisville, Kentucky.

History:  This location was the sight of a one-room schoolhouse, called Waverley School. It was then changed by Mayor Hays to Waverley Hills, a more peaceful name. And when the The Board of Tuberculosis Hospital bought the property, they kept the name, but later changed Waverley to Waverly, excluding the "e", but that would change back and forth over the years. To help contain the disease they built two, two-story wooden buildings, for early cases. And on August 31, 1912, the patients from the city hospital were temporarily relocated to the location of Waverly Hills. Construction for a five-story building that can hold more than 400 patients began on March of 1924. The five-story building opened on October 17, 1926, but would not be operating much longer. With streptomycin in 1943, Waverly Hills closed in June 1961. The building reopened as Woodhaven Medical Services in 1962, a nursing home . But Woodhaven was closed by the state in 1982 allegedly due to patient neglect.
